Summiteers - Your voices in raising the Function 550 were again heard! The Senate has taken positive action - please see details below from Marcia Mabee (Coalition for Health Funding). Please keep up the continued communication on the House side - esp those of you who have Budget Committee members. **** The total provided for Function 550/discretionary Budget Authority under the Senate Budget Committee passed FY 2008 Budget Resolution is $54.815 billion. This is $2.717 billion higher than the final FY 2007 amount of $52.098, or a 5.2% increase over FY 2007. While not the $4 billion, 7.8% increase the broad health community pushed for, it is quite good. It is better than the overall domestic discretionary amount provided in the measure, which is $18 billion over FY 2007 and a 4.2% increase. The overall amount is double the 2.1% CBO inflator for FY 2008 and F. 550 is 1% better than that. You should all take credit for getting this result! The House Budget Committee is expected to mark up its Budget Resolution this week. Senator Conrad and Rep. Spratt have been working closely together, so we hope we will see at least as much as the Senate BR for F. 550.
